French Broad Veterans Memorial Park

French Broad Veterans Memorial Park sits high on the bluffs above the French Broad River, commanding a view that overlooks the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery.

Working with Legacy Parks, Barber McMurry designed a pavilion to anchor a large plaza at the overlook promontory, including a flag courtyard, memorial walk, nature trails, and reflective garden. The pavilion uses a material palette of textured fiber cement panels, painted steel, and wooden accents — all a reference to the durability and utility of materials used in the military.

The French Broad Veterans Memorial Park serves as a second site for mourners at the Veterans Cemetery across the river, as well as a public Knox County Park, always honoring the service and sacrifice of East Tennessee’s veterans.
