John J. Duncan Federal Building

The John J. Duncan Federal Building, completed in 1988, has a distinctive post-modern design that is unique among downtown Knoxville buildings. The unique pink-gray granite used in the exterior was imported from Finland.

The design included plazas on opposite corners of the site, giving employees a place to relax or eat with plentiful seating, water features and landscaped green space. The firm's longstanding design principles — including accessibility of views, inclusion of green space, and the use of efficient building systems — helped the building later receive a LEED certification.
