Agriculture & Natural Resources Building

At the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture, Barber McMurry and Lord Aeck Sargent designed the new Agriculture & Natural Resources Building. The four-story building is a centerpiece and living research environment for students, with an integrated green roof and research patio garden. 

The ANRB houses shared research laboratories, classrooms, auditorium-style lecture halls, open and enclosed offices, and abundant huddle spaces — formal and informal meeting and collaboration spots. Labs are placed at the building's core while offices and group spaces are grouped near windows. Interior glazing pulls natural light as far as possible into the building. A large multipurpose space can seat 500 or be sub-divided into small spaces, and is used for conferences, events, and academic engagements.

The green roof's native, drought-tolerant planting mimics natural Tennessee environments, as well as retaining more than 80% of the rainwater that falls on the site.
