Barber McMurry - Arnstein

In our own downtown Knoxville office, Barber McMurry created an inspiring, modern space built for collaboration.

Housed in the historic Arnstein building, believed to be the first Knoxville high-rise, the design immerses our studio in a dynamic urban atmosphere, supporting creativity, collaboration and responsiveness. The space is organized to maximize daylight, views and openness.

Interior design preserves existing historic features and details wherever possible — original hardwood floors, columns, transoms. The firm recreated precise replicas of the original central-pivot windows, which had been replaced by previous occupants. Where needed, new hardwoods that closely resembled the originals were installed.

The office is highly energy-efficient, saving 35% more water and 42% more on lighting than a standard office space. Every occupied space is daylighted, and 95% of occupied spaces have a view outdoors. The office design achieved LEED Silver for Commercial Interiors.
