Five Points

The new Five Points affordable housing neighborhood utilizes a design that reflects the architectural styles of homes in the area, reducing the stigma of public housing and honoring the history and culture of the community.

The new mixed-use development model — finalized through extensive engagement with residents and community members — creates walkable, convenient neighborhoods that follow the principles of traditional community design. Family-friendly apartments and townhouses replace subsidized apartments that were constructed around mid-century. The design meets Enterprise Green Communities Certification criteria, which is earned through sustainable construction techniques that emphasize energy efficiency, conservation of resources, and the creation of healthy living environments.

Barber McMurry worked with Urban Design Associates on two phases of the revitalization project, which included 60+ buildings and 160+ units, as well as community amenities — playgrounds, green space with sidewalks or greenways, and shared computer labs.
