The Residences at Eastport
The adaptive reuse of Eastport Elementary School (originally built in 1930) transformed the building into affordable senior housing.
The project renovated the existing building and added four new buildings around it, establishing secure courtyards accessible to residents and their guests. The arrangement mimics the courtyard established by the original school building, while the new buildings similarly echo massing and materiality, but inject modern elements. The site design prioritized a relatively compact and efficient development footprint while maximizing daylight access for the apartments.
Eastport, a joint venture with Sanders Pace, was the first multi-family residential project in Knoxville to achieve LEED Platinum certification.
